Now that Easter’s over have you consumed enough chocolate to keep you going for the rest of the year? It may not just be your waistline that feels the weight of the indulgent weekend. Your voice may suffer too.

This diet won't give you a "chocolate voice"
Chocolate Effects on the Voice
It is well known that both sugar and caffeine have an effect on the whole of the body that can make you less productive after an initial short lasting spike of energy. Chocolate may coat the back of the throat giving you more phlegm and a flatter sounding voice. It is best avoided before using your vocal cords to record voice overs, present a radio show or for DJing.
The best kind of foods for the voice are wet foods like fruit and salad also make sure you drink plenty of liquids (water is best). Avoid dry and sugary foods like cookies, cheese and chocolate.
If your trade requires the use of your voice make sure you eat healthy to help protect the sound of your voice.
If you have any tips on eating and drinking well to protect your voice please leave them in the comments below.

Are you wondering how to make money at home using your voice? Well, let me help you. When it comes to making money at home, most people think of writing, web design, and so on. The truth is, you can also use your voice to make money at home and it really isn’t that hard. Here are some ideas to help you get started.

Make voice overs from home
Voice Overs for Videos
One of the most popular at home jobs using your voice is to voice over for videos. This is where a video, ad, etc. is created and your voice is used to narrate it. There are many places online that hire people to do these voice overs. YouTube is also full of videos made by individuals many of whom would love a professional voice over on their video. All you need to do is find a clever way to market yourself to that group. You can also become a member of voice over sites where you can offer your own services for a certain price. Voice overs for videos are not hard at all, but remember the marketplace is competitive and when attempting to land a job as a voice over, practice, practice, practice.
Voice Overs for Commercials
Voicing commercials is another way you can make money at home using your voice. There are sites online that hire people to do the voice in their commercials. These jobs are also fairly straight forward to do once you’ve honed your technique. If you are looking to do commercials, it is best to make a portfolio of commercials with your voice so that you can have a demo to send out to prospective clients. Look out for places that are hiring people to do commercials and send them a demo to get started today.
Sell Radio Ads
You can also work from home using your voice to sell radio ads. Many radio stations hire people like me and you to make ads for them. This can be done from the comfort of your home with a good quality microphone, decent sound proofing and audio editing software. Search for places that need radio ads voice like internet radio stations and podcasters. You will also want to make a voice over demo of you reading different radio ads. That way when you apply to a radio station, you can give them your demo to listen to.
Create Audio Books
Audio books are very popular these days because it’s an easy way for people to consume information while doing something else like washing up, working up, gardening, driving the car or even while working. Listening to an audio book is a powerful way to learn and also one of my favourite ways to do so. I listen to audio books on x2 speed all the time on my iPhone as it allows me to digest stuff in double the time! With the high demand for audio books, there are quite a few companies that hire people to turn their books into audio books. So, if you are looking for a job at home using your voice, this may be a great job for you.
Anything else? Is there a way you make money from home using your voice? Let me know in the comments.

There is so much jargon used in the radio industry for all the bits that go in-between the music, commercials and chat. It’s hard for someone outside the industry or anyone looking to start a career in radio to understand what it all means. What’s the difference between a radio bumper and a radio ID? Is a music bed something that plays soothing music until I fall asleep on it? In this article I’ll attempt to define exactly what a radio sweeper is for you.

Blow away the rubbish with a radio sweeper!
Radio Sweeper Definition
A radio sweeper is a recorded statement by a voice over artist identifying the name of a radio station along with a tagline or short phrase. It usually comes to less than 20 words in total and can be mixed with sound effects and effects on the voice (such as stereo phasing, echo or pitch shift to name a few).
Example: “You’re listening to Radio XYZ – we play the best music – visit us at radioxyz dot com”
Why Do You Need Radio Sweepers?
When you’re playing a set of songs back to back you should aim to identify the name of your radio station in between each track. Radio sweepers are perfect for this purpose. They do the job quickly and allow you to get back to the music as fast as possible. You can have radio sweepers designed in such a way that it’s possible to lay them over the top of the intro to the next music track (before the vocals kick in). Some clever radio automation software packages can even play radio sweepers that mix seamlessly from song to song right up to the vocals of the next track.
You need radio sweepers to remind your listener of what they’re listening to and can even give them a call to action. Think of what you want your listener to do.
Radio Sweeper Call to Actions
Here are some ideas of calls to action that could be included in your next radio sweeper:
1. You could ask the listener to visit your website.
2. Get the listener to follow your social media profiles.
3. Ask the listener to call in to the radio station.
4. Word of mouth – get the listener to tell a friend.
5. Stay tuned – don’t switch off – something big is happening next!
