Pirate radio station jingles

Pirate Radio Jingles

Pirate radio started up in the early 60s and by 1968 there were 21 pirate radio stations broadcasting in the UK. All of these stations were memorable for their catchy radio jingles. You could sing along to them and they’d put a smile on your face. Like the memorable Radio Caroline jingles along with the famous Caroline bell. Big L had a great themed jingle about London “that’s my home town”. All of these pirate radio jingles are available to download online and many enthusiasts and collectors have great online businesses selling pirate radio jingles. A couple of my favourite commerical jingle sites are Pirate Radio Sales and Radio Fab (love the name taken from Smashie and Nicey’s fictional radio station “pop-a-doodle-doo!”

Pirate Radio CDs, DVDs and Books

Here’s a great collection of pirate radio CDs, DVDs and books with music and memories from the old pirate days.

Pirate Radio Essex

Essex will always be the spiritual home of pirate radio in the UK as it was back in 1964 that the first ever pirate radio broadcast commenced. It was broadcast from a ship, called the MV Mi Amigo, that was located just off the Essex coast.

Today Big L, a legal pirate station, broadcasts from Frinton-on-Sea on 1395 kHZ AM to South East England and the Netherlands.

Pirate Radio Cornwall

If you’re looking fore a pirate radio station in cornwall you’ll find one! Pirate FM is actually a commercial radio station serving the whole of Cornwall on 102.2 & 102.8 FM. The links are more “shiver me timbers” based than any links to pirate radio in Cornwall.

Pirate Radio Stations on the Internet

Many pirate radio stations today, fed up with the constant raids and pressures associated with illegal over the air broadcasting, have turned to the internet. It’s a new style of “pirate radio” that anyone can set up from their own bedroom with very little equipment or need for big pirate radio transmitters!
