There’s been snowfall on both sides of the Atlantic during the last couple of months and with more snow forecast where do people turn? Yes, that’s right, the radio!

Snow has covered both sides of the Atlantic
Radio has the ability to broadcast instant and local reports on the snow conditions – unlike any other media. The UK has had two bad snow spells recently – 18th December 2009 and 6th January 2010 – the country almost came to a standstill during the most recent snow storm. Trains ground to a halt or were severely delayed, planes were grounded, roads became icy and dangerous to use and the advice was “only travel if absolutely necessary”.
In the US Washington DC has been hit with snow storms over the past two weeks and, as a result, popularity of the local news station WTOP has gone through the roof.
I had the fortune to be travelling by train from Preston towards London on 6th January and I found the BBC local stations to be an excellent source of snow chaos updates as I was on the move. Looking at this Google Insights graph it seems like millions of others found the radio handy during the worst snow in decades:

Snow Interest: Listeners tuned in as snow covered the UK in a white blanket.
So, what do you do with all these new captive listeners?
Get as many snow jingles, snow sweepers and snow slogans on the air as possible. Let them know you’re the only place for accurate and up to date snow forecasts on the radio.
“We’re the number one radio station for the latest weather conditions and that’s SNOW joke!”
“Snow reports all day and night on SNOW FM”
“The Snow? We’ve got it covered!”
