Podcasting has been on the radar for around 7 years which has given the medium plenty of time to establish itself and produce some front running and award winning podcasts. Here’s my pick of the best podcasts right now that I recommend you subscribe to. They are full of great content, free to download and (most of all in my opinion) they have great podcast production qualities.

Podcasts with great production values
1. Internet Business Mastery with Sterling and Jay
I started listening to these guys last year and am now addicted to their content and have started listening to their archives between each new episode. Each podcast starts with a movie trailer voice over introduing a podcast that will help you to “take control, earn more money and start an internet business today”. Each segment is punctuated with radio sweeper style stabs introducing their “feature segment” and also the “quick tip” which comes towards the end. This podcast is full of tips on how to start and run your own internet business and I love the fact that the hosts are so genuine and honest in their delivery covering success along with failures. This podcast could easily be a weekly show on national talk radio and both Sterling and Jay clearly care about sound quality even though they are based in different parts of the United States they are able to link up each week and create audio that is a joy to listen to.
2. Answer Me This with Helen and Olly
If you live in the UK and haven’t seen this podcast trending at the top of the iTunes chart you may very well have been living under a rock. Helen and Olly have hosted this podcast for 5 years now (they recently celebrated with a set of special bicentennial bonanza shows) and each episode is packed full of jingles that the pair script and sing themselves. The podcast covers a wide variety of topics from tasteless t-shirts to female Beefeaters and is created around listeners calling in and leaving questions for Helen and Olly to answer. It’s an entertaining listen and full of great production values (like the producer that has a touch of reverb on his voice). Last year the podcast won a prestigious Sony Radio Academy Award for Best Internet Programme.
OK, so this one is a podcast of a traditional radio show broadcast on national UK radio station BBC Radio 1 but it is worthy of a mention as the presenter is only on air once a week between the hours of 9pm-10pm each Wednesday. I hadn’t heard much of Matt Edmondson until I attended the Next Radio conference in London in 2011 and now I can safely say that I can’t miss a single episode of this podcast. It’s a great way to catch up with the show as all the tunes are cut and just the juicy content is left in. Matt always records a special section for podcast listeners only in the middle and at the end which, as a podcast listener, makes me feel really special. Matt is a talented, funny and entertaining broadcaster and I recommend you hit subscribe to get his parodies, recycled celebrity interviews and clever sketches delivered to your ear buds each week. He’s a future Radio 1 breakfast show talent in the making in my opinion.
Subscribe to these three podcasts and I guarantee you’ll have a more inspired, informed and entertained year.
